ISFCRI is responsible to do research on commodities as follows : sweetener crop (sugar cane, bit, stevia), stem fiber crops (ramie, kenaf, rosela, jute, abaca, agave, linum, and etc), tobacco, and industrial oil crops (sesame, jatropha, candlenut oil, and sun flower). The research program created is based on ISFCRI Strategy Plan for year 2009 - 2014. The priority and research focus was based to stakeholders interest and to anticipate the trouble / problem which includes the program as follows:

  1. The assembling of tobacco varieties to decrease tar and nicotine rate, that has high disease resistance, also improve the quality and productivity.
  2. Development of cotton varieties which has high productivity and high fiber quality and that is resistant to A. biguttula and fruit pest, also drought.
  3. Development of superior jarak pagar varieties.
  4. Development of superior kenaf varieties for sour and dry land.
  5. Development of superior wijen varieties in rice fields.
  6. Development of superior rami varieties.
  7. integrated farming of jarak kepyar in dry land.

Those superior varieties is also equipped with cultivation technology package and socio-economic feasibility study. The proposed research activities and implementation is being evaluated and monitored by a team formed by Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Perkebunan. The financing of the research activities is budgetted through APBN and cooperation with other parties.
